What is CinnaFuego Toast Crunch?

CinnaFuego is a new General Mills cereal that released on 8/12/2022 and is available for a limited time only. It combines two timeless classics: sweet Cinnamon Toast Crunch + spicy cinnamon, similar to what you experience with candies like RedHots and Atomic Fireballs.

While regular cereal is typically eaten with milk as a breakfast food, General Mills suggests CinnaFuego as a snack, presumably to be eaten dry like trail mix or nuts.

CinnaFuego Toast Crunch Reviews

The reviews are in and they are… not good. But what can you really expect for spicy cereal?

If you like RedHots or Big Red chewing gum, and like the idea of a cereal that tastes similar, you might like this cereal. But one reviewer described the experience of this cereal as similar to tasting Big Red submerged in milk, like swallowing someone’s spit. Other people report that it is too spicy, there’s too much cinnamon flavor, and that it’s too expensive for how much cereal you get.

Where to get CinnaFuego Toast Crunch

CinnaFuego Toast Crunch was released in an exclusive deal with Walmart, so if you are shopping locally, Walmart is definitely the best place to look.

Online you can buy it from resellers on websites like Amazon, but prices are very inflated because resellers have had to buy it at full retail price in order to mark it up and sell it online.

Ingredients

Here are the official ingredients of CinnaFuego Toast Crunch:

Whole Grain Wheat, Sugar, Rice Flour, Canola and/or Sunflower Oil, Fructose, Maltodextrin, Dextrose, Salt, Cinnamon, Natural Flavor, Trisodium Phosphate, Soy Lecithin, Caramel Color. BHT Added to Preserve Freshness. Vitamins and Minerals: Calcium Carbonate, Iron and Zinc (mineral nutrients), A B Vitamin (niacinamide), Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine hydrochloride), Vitamin B2 (riboflavin), A B Vitamin (folic acid).

How spicy is it? What makes it spicy?

People have reported that CinnaFuego is, well, too spicy for cereal. From the ingredients, it’s hard to determine what makes them spicy. In high doses, cinnamon can be spicy, so an increase in cinnamon compared to the original recipe may be part to blame.

However, the official messaging from General Mills calls it a “spicy pepper kick”, which leads me to believe it may have added capsaicin, the spicy-making compound found in chili peppers. The ingredients list “natural flavor”, and so the spicy component is likely grouped into that label
