1. The condiment aisle
If you are generally looking for hot sauce (not one specific brand), the condiment aisle is usually where they will live. This is typically where you can find hot sauces like Tabasco, YellowBird, Frank’s, and Texas Pete.
In some grocery stores, the condiment aisle houses ALL of their hot sauces, while in other stores it only has the general American-style hot sauces that you might use for steak or wing sauce.
2. The international aisle
Some grocery stores have an international aisle, which is a great place to check for hot sauces. There may be a condiments section of the international aisle, or it may be split into different sections for different regions of the world.
3. The “Mexican food” aisle
If your grocery store has a Mexican or Latin American food aisle or section, chances are you will find a few hot sauces there. The Mexican food section typically will have a variety of salsas, taco sauces, and Mexican hot sauces.
This is where you’re likely to find Valentina, Cholula, and El Yucateco hot sauces. You might even find Tapatio in the Mexican food aisle despite that it is a California-owned company.
4. The “Asian food” aisle
There are several hot sauces that originate in different parts of Asia, or which are Asian cuisine-inspired that you are likely to find in the “Asian food” aisle or section of your grocery store. This is where you’ll find Sriracha and Huy Fong chili garlic sauce, as well as pre-made curries and chili oil.
Where to buy hot sauce online
If you’re struggling to find the hot sauce you want in your local grocery store, it’s extremely easy to buy hot sauce online. Amazon has a wide selection of different hot sauces, and eBay has a lot of specialty and already-discontinued hot sauces.
